Melanie
Graham
Melanie Graham came
to Hollywood all by herself in the mid-1970's and forged a career in Show
Business. She's smart and tough and very, very funny. I got to know her
by sharing driving duties with her and Wren Rolison on a road trip from
D.C. through the South and out to California in 1980.
In the 80's, Melanie
became a member of The Groundlings Improv Group and her show, "Just Like
The Pom Pom Girls" was an enormous hit that I must have seen over a dozen
times. Melanie wrote and starred in this Groundling's production
and her performance in it ranks among my favorite comedy creations. It
was later made into a film titled "A Sinful Life" with Anita
Morris starring in the role Melanie created
on stage.
Melanie directs "Cooking
With Gas" every Thursday night at The Groundlings (the FX network bought
it for television and calls it "Instant Comedy") and works for MTV as a
story editor on "Road Rules".
When the photograph
above was taken on June 15,1990, Miss Graham was listening to Sinead O'Connor's
"I am Stretched On Your Grave". As the late Moon Shadix remarked
after meeting her at his home in Alabama in 1980, "That little red-headed
woman sure is funny. She's mean, but she's funny".
