Aaron
Brown
Aaron Brown was the bouncer at Ports,
and Ports was the bar I haunted in the 1980's. Three of the bartenders
lived at Ten Bungalows (three blocks away), I could walk home after too
many Long Island Ice Teas, I was addicted to their Maryland Soft Shell
Crab and their jukebox played my soundtrack.
Aaron would always
give me the scoop at the front door and when it was a mad crush, always
found a way to get me and my gang inside and around a table. The
last of my real drinking was done at Ports and at The Formosa across the
street. I stopped going midway through 1990 and lost touch with Aaron
and many of my old drinking chums. Ports faded as the 90's began
and was quickly replaced by a bar called "Jones," whose door I have yet
to darken. I wish I could say where dear Aaron is these days but
wherever he is I am quite sure he is not being pushed around -- Mister
Brown holds his ground.
On June 6, 1990, Aaron
Brown was at Ten Bungalows having his picture taken while listening to
The Rolling Stones' "Between A Rock And A Hard Place."
